Sam Lanza began his dream when he picked up a 1958 “Brownie” camera.

At the young age of eight, Sam became the family photographer of a proud family that immigrated to America from Sicily. Wherever Sam went, the “Brownie” camera followed.

While working full time, he furthered his education at various community colleges earned a Graphic Art Certificate and an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Photography from College of DuPage and later pursued and received a Business Management Degree at National Lewis University. In 1997, Sam left the corporate world to pursue professional photography full time, starting Lanza Portrait Design..

Sam’s wife, Marie, joined him fulltime in 2003. Today, Lanza Portrait Design studio in Bloomingdale is flourishing.

People have their own story and the key to success is to learn from the masters to create master images. The Lanza’s are proud to create “Images from the Heart.” They understand what it means to create beautiful images with their hearts, with their souls and with a life-long passion of capturing the essence of a person.

Northern Illinois Experiences Magnitude 4.3 Earthquake

Early this morning Illinois was rocked with with a Magnitude 4.3 Earthquake at aprox 3:59 am on February 10th 2010.

The USGS estimates that several million earthquakes occur in the world each year, but many go undetected because they occur in remote areas or have very small magnitudes. The USGS is working to improve its earthquake monitoring and reporting capabilities through the Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS). In the past three years the USGS has installed approximately 300 new earthquake monitoring instruments in the San Francisco, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Anchorage, Reno, Las Vegas, and Memphis areas. Full implementation of ANSS will result in 6000 new instruments on the ground and in structures in at-risk urban areas, as well as a backbone of modern seismic instruments for the entire Nation. Once in place, the ANSS will provide emergency response personnel with real-time (within 5-10 minutes of an event) information on the intensity and distribution of ground shaking that can be used to guide emergency response efforts. Similarly, information on building “shaking” will equip engineers with the data they need to improve building designs in the future.
